Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team’s statement on Mexican President’s remarks on Ayotzinapa investigation

August 30, 2018 – Regarding the statements made by President Enrique Peña Nieto yesterday about the so-called “Historic Truth” of the Ayotzinapa case, the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF for its initials in Spanish) respectfully expresses that over 18 months of collection and multidisciplinary analysis of the physical evidence from the Cocula landfill, no scientific evidence was found to support the supposed incineration of 43 bodies the night of September 26-27, 2014 in that location. We presented this conclusion in our expert report offered in the corresponding criminal investigation and in a press conference in February 2016.

On this International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the EAAF calls for the widening of the investigation into the enforced disappearances of the 43 students, so that the authorities are able to inform their families of what happened to the students of the teacher training college in Ayotzinapa.

For 34 years, the EAAF has accompanied families of victims of enforced disappearance around the world in the search, identification, and restitution of the remains of their loved ones, placing science at the service of truth and justice.
