National Workshop for the Defense of Human Rights through Communication
The Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez Human Rights Center; the National Network of Human Rights Organizations “All Human Rights for All”, Amnesty International-México, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico, Periodistas de a Pie, La Sandía Digital and SocialTIC convene the National Workshop for the Defense of Human Rights through Communication
Purpose: To provide theoretical and technical tools to foster the creation, application and evaluation of comprehensive strategies of communication applied towards the defense and promotion of human rights.
• Collaborators of the Communication Divisions of organizations within the National Network of Human Rights Organizations “All Human Rights for All”.
• Members of associations and organizations that do not have a communication division or have a recently-created one.
• Graduates from educational institutions who focus on human rights and seek to enrich their communication knowledge and apply it to the defense and promotion of human rights.
• Members of media with a career in alliance with or involvement in human rights organizations who seek to know the professional working models of civil society.
• Professionals of the communications field interested in acquiring and sharing tools deriving from the day-to-day exercise of human rights that can be applied to specific processes to defend and promote human rights.

This workshop aims to approach the following subjects:
a) Text processing from an informative approach
b) Tools of written communication applied to the defense and promotion of human rights
c) Strategies of internal and external communication applied to the defense and promotion
of human rights —this approach includes marketing and advertising elements adapted to
the needs of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
d) Strategic management of social media (social networks and web tools) applied to the
defense and promotion of human rights.
There will be 3 courses to choose:
Written communication from a journalistic approach
Internal and external communication
Moreover, there will be 7 complementary modules:
Tools for the analysis of the current context from Civil Society
Video for the defense of human rights
Data management and creation of computer graphics
Positioning in social networks
Structures of power and sources of information

We are interested in active involvement, which is why we invite you to bring all information available about the experiences and working models of your group or organization (forms, manuals, information on cases that are being monitored or are to be monitored, among others)
A week before the workshop, admitted people will receive a confirmation of the assigned courses and modules to take, as well as readings and assignments to complete in advance in order to take advantage of the collective interaction during the course/module
It is advisable (NOT a requirement for participation) to bring a laptop.
The workshop will be held for three days: July the 18th, 19th, and 20.
The workshop begins on Thursday at 18 p.m. within the facilities of Center Prodh, the next days we begin at 9 a.m. and finishes on Saturday the 20 around 3 along with a closing lunch. Subsequently, an informal gathering will take place among the workshop assistants.
If you wish to participate, we require:
a) To forward, at least a week prior to the date of the event, the admission form available on our website (the admission form can also be requested via electronic mail at firstname.lastname@example.org). The confirmation of admission will be notified to the electronic mail address of contact.
b) The commitment to be actively involved before, during and after the event, by seeking an interaction that provides the maximum amount of knowledge to analyze, as well as an availability to share knowledge acquired from other means. Subsequently it will be essential to answer the questionnaire that will be sent to all assistants.
c) A voluntary contribution of 200 Mexican pesos; this economic contribution seeks to support those people who have difficulties to cover the costs of their participation.
d) Financial support can be requested in advance and granted if considered necessary. This support cannot exceed 50% of the costs of transportation.
e) To determine whether accommodation is needed and if it is, not to forget personal care products.
f) To specify if you are a vegetarian.
